Yasuyuki Machida creates scarves inspired by crumpled paper. The Japanese designer pleats textiles and then prints the patterns, allowing the fabric to distort them, creating new shapes and color combinations. Yasuyuki believes that if the results are predictable, it is not a good piece, and that artists and craftsmen should allow chance to interfere to create unexpected designs.

今回のスカーフは、全体的に落ち着いた深みのある色合いながらも、所々に目の覚めるような差し色が入っていて締りがあり、また絶妙な色の混ざり具合が美しいです。一見無造作に染められた布のようですが、実はスカーフとして計算され尽くされています。例えばアシメトリーながらも、フリンジは色の切り替えが細かく、両端共に同じように染められています。単なるファッションアイテムにとどまらない、素晴らしい芸術作品です。
