5月5日は五節句の一つ｢端午の節句｣です。
中国から伝わった｢端午の節句｣は男女ともに共通する厄災除の行事でした。
それが日本の五穀豊穣を願う風習｢五月忌み｣という、早乙女の神聖な仕事とされていた田植えの前に菖蒲で身体を清めていたことがらと合わさり、菖蒲を飾って厄を払う行事から時代を経てお祝いの行事へなったようです。
現在｢端午の節句｣は男の子のお節句とされ、
菖蒲や鯉のぼりや鎧兜を飾り、柏餅を食べ、菖蒲湯に浸かるなどします。
そして鯉のぼりには子の成長への思いが入っています。
鯉は生命力が強く、清流だけでなく池や沼でも生息することができます。その鯉が出てくる｢登竜門｣の言葉の元になった中国の伝説では、竜門という滝を鯉がさか登り、竜になって天に登ったとのことです。このことから子どもがどんな環境でも頑張れる、強い人になるようにとの願いが込められた飾りです。
我が家には鯉のぼりが無く、今よりずっと小さかった子が鯉のぼりを欲しがりました。今年、鯉のぼり欲しいかと聞くと要らないと言いました。
子供でいる時間の短さに驚き、まだ成長を祝いたいと思って作りました。
